Domain Name:

Purpose:

The purpose of my website is to showcase my work to potential employers so they can see my skills. I also want those who visit to feel like they know me by weaving in my personality all throughout the site.

Audience:

The main audience of my website will be potential employers that may want to hire me once I graduate in 2012. A secondary audience will be family and friends that might be curious and want to know what I am working on in school. I will focus on my target audience, potential employers, for this assignment.

Specific characteristics of my audience:

The age range, on average, will be from mid 20's to mid 50's.

The education level will be a bachelor's or master's degree.

The industry type will be in communications, with a focus on Public Relations and/or Web Design.

Why my site is unique:

My site it unique because I'm a student in college building my own website to show off my work. I know that by doing this I will have an advantage over others who are applying for the same job I might be. This website will be proof that not only do I have the skills needed to work in a public relations agency, but I enjoy the work I do. It makes me happy seeing others happy. I also want possible employers to see that I am enthusiastic when it comes to learning, and I love learning new skills any chance I get. I love that I am getting ahead of the game by building my own website as a student in college. That to me is very unique.

How the uniqueness will be accomplished:

The key word that will be used to describe my website is simplicity! I want my website to be simple but enjoyable at the same time. I also want it to be creative enough to stick out from the rest of my competitors. I want people to click on my website and right away say, "Wow! This girl has talent!" I am really interested in web design and I find it quite fun building up this site of mine. So hopefully other will see the uniqueness in my website and enjoy it as much as I have in building it!

Site Basics:

Home Page-

My home page will be the place where visitors can go to and find what they need to by simple navigation tabs. I will most likely have a picture of me with a greeting message to welcome visitors to my site, and also what my site is about. It will also be the first tab that you can click on at any time to go back to the home page. My logo in the left corner will also lead back to my home page.

About Me-

The next navigation tab will be information about me. I will tell about my background and other important facts employers may want to know. I will include some pictures of me as well.

Assignments-

I will have a navigation tab strictly for my CIT 230 assignments.

Portfolio-

This navigation tab will contain all my projects I want employers to see so they know what I can do. I don't have too many projects to showcase now, but I will have plenty within the next two years to put on here before I graduate. I will have sections under this tab to separate my projects into categories such as "photography", "writing", "designs", "Pubic Relations", and so on.

Resume-

Here, potential employers will be able to view my resume.

Contact-

Under this tab I will have a place where visitors who want to contact me can leave their name, email and a message for me to get back to them.

Header and Footer-

In the top left corner of my website will be my logo, which will be inside the header. This will also be a link you can click on to go back to my home page if needed. At the bottom of my web site in the footer will be links to my Demoville site, Site Plan, Style Guide, Colophon and Contact pages.

What I will avoid putting on my website:

I will avoid putting anything flashy or animated on my website. I want my site to be simple and creative, but also professional at the same time.

Sites I admire:

http://www.veer.com/

I like this site because of the way it is organized. They have their logo as a link to go back to their home page when you want to. The tabs across the top are organized into the basic categories. The images use show off their work are are fun to see.

http://www.supercook.com/

This site is neat because you can type in random ingredients you have in your cupboard and recipes show up that you may be interested in making. They use simplicity in only having three tabs, which are the three main categories you will find a food item: starters, entrees, and desserts.

http://www.mint.com/

I love the layout of this site. It is very pleasing to my eyes and catches my attention because of it. The tabs have drop-down lists, and that is perfect for this type of site. I also enjoy putting my cursor over the words at the bottom and seeing images pop up! Very neat and useful site for managing your budget!
